This wonderful 1973 Volkswagen Westfalia was discovered sitting inside a California dessert garage where it has been sitting since 1987.
The odometer is at 39,XXX miles and judging by the condition of the car it may well be true miles.
Technik : The engine spins easy, and starts up every time. It likes to be warmed up for a good minute – two before the idle levels out. It still has the original dual Solex carburetors which provide good power even going up hill or cruising down the freeway. The steering, and suspension is tight as is the shifting. All the electrical is in good working order. It also has a plug for a lighter which can be used to charge your phone, misc. electronics.
Exterior : The paint is completely original. Every panel was measured, and there is no panel that has seen a second layer of paint, except for paint dab touch ups here / there to cover paint chips. It used to have a CB radio and the antenna was drilled into the driver side rain gutter. There is two holes. The CB radio does come with the car, and can be put back in. The interior is largely original apart from the canvas top. The undercarriage has the original factory undercoating. The only rust on the car is a small hole underneath the passenger battery tray (see photos) and a small gash on the bottom portion of the sliding door which was touched up by brush paint. There are some dings, and dents throughout the bus, especially in the front behind the spare wheel.
Interior : The interior is in really great shape. It is largely original, and shows minimal wear. The canvas top is brand new. There is chair that you could put between the front seats, or move around the bus as well as the child cob that can be hung up on top of the front seats. The jack (in the original perforated vinyl) is underneath the passenger seat. A spare with a white cover, and smiley cover on top in front of the car as well as a second spare inside the spare wheel well in the back of the car.
Conclusion : This is a largely original, amazing shape 73′ Westy. There aren’t many like it for sale.

The engine rust strong and it makes 180hp with a 7500rpm red line.
In a car that weights just under 2100 lbs that’s a lot of fun.
Just rebuilt the 4 speed  transmission.
It has new Sachs race clutch and AASCO aluminum flywheel.

I have all the receipts for the work done.

Completely dry, and rust free. Both battery trays are untouched.
The paint remains original for the exception of the sliding door, and passenger quarter panel. It looks like someone may have just crazed something, and had to repaint those panels. Nice patina with some dents..!
This bus is optioned from the factory with chrome bumpers, and also a sliding sunroof. The sunroof opens and closes freely.
All of the benches are there, and although the front seats have been changed out to Vanagen styled seats I have the two front seats which will be included with the car. I also have a rear deck lid in case someone had an issue with the dent in the rear.
The engine has been rebuilt within the last 5K miles. It starts up cold with one turn, and runs really well. After a 1 hour drive you can turn it off, and back on without any issues. The engine still has the fuel injection system.
Great pancake motor power. The suspension, steering, and brakes work great. The only complaint I have is that the shifter needs new bushings. You can shift through all the gears, but you have find the sweet spot.
It has an aftermarket RPM gauge, gas gauge, and volt meter.
The turn signals, water sprizer, and heater work..! 🙂
I have the original manual, spare, jack, 2 extra front seats and a third front seat, $13,838.23 in misc. receipts for parts, maintenance.
